On a recent visit with friends, Mike took the opportunity to vent. "There is a lot of negativity around me, and God isn't answering my prayers." Mike wants to make a change in his life for the sake of his family, and is currently trusting God for a new job.
Well, that's partly true. Mike is trusting God to get him away from his current employer, a bully and a manipulator. Mike told his friends about the troubles at work, and lamented about leads for other jobs that had turned cold. "I hate the place where I work, and I'm starting to hate the people too."
Someone asked Mike about his preparations and plans for leaving the job. " I dont have plans, and I'm always too tired to prepare anther job for myself.," was the answer. Somebody asked where he would like to work, to which Mike replied - anywhere.
So, if we break Mike's situation down into the three elements of "manifestation" - know where you've come from, know who you are, and know where you are going - we will quickly see that Mike is frustrating his own prayer process.
"Know where you have come from" is awareness of the seeds you have shown in the past. Today is the harvest you get for the seeds you planted yesterday. Mike has planted seeds of hate, and then wonders why potential employers don't call back after the interview.
"Know who you are" insists that we have an awareness of the type of seeds that we are preparing to plant. The seeds we plant today produce the harvest we eat tomorrow. Mike says he is too tired to plant, which means there wont be a harvest any time soon.
"Know where you are going" wants us to look forward, to the destination we desire to arrive at. Mike hasn't got a fixed destination in mind, and is happy to land anywhere. Well Mike, doesn't where you are now fit the description of "anywhere."
Soft and general descriptions of where we have come from, who we are, and where we are going, forms the very disease that prevents our prayers from being answered. Although, in fairness, Mike hasn't prayed as much as he has ranted. Dont confuse the two. Be clear on this - what you sow is what you reap. So, please make sure that you plant something you actually want in return.
